Outcast Ventures is an early-stage venture firm built on the belief that founding teams matter more than founding ideas.

We invest $500K–$1M at pre-seed and seed. Some teams are already formed. Others form through Catalyst.

Our Belief

The founders we back look wrong before they look right. Being early is indistinguishable from being wrong, until it isn't. You don't accept the world as it is. Not the market. Not the technology. Not the team to build with. You spend years being misunderstood before anyone catches up.

So you don't settle on the most important decision of all. You would rather wait for the right co-founder than build with whoever happens to be convenient. In a market that rewards pattern-matching and consensus—

We believe the future belongs to those brave enough to be outcasts.

The Founders

Andy Chen

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Prior to Outcast, Andy launched and co-led Coatue's venture practice as a General Partner, investing from seed through Series A in companies including Figma, Scale AI, Chime, Distyl and Persona.

Earlier, Andy was one of the first Talent Partners in venture, at Kleiner Perkins, where he founded the KPCB Fellows Program, one of the most selective talent fellowships in tech. Before KP, he was an early employee at Riviera Partners, now the largest technical recruiting firm. Before becoming an investor, he recruited thousands of engineers and executives across high-growth startups.

Andy was also a nuclear weapons analyst in the CIA. He can't talk about it.

Amy Lin

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Prior to Outcast, Amy was the Chief Product Officer at NFX, where she scaled the fund to $1.5B AUM, 220+ investments, and 20+ unicorns. She's regarded as a pioneer in software and AI-driven venture capital.

Before NFX, Amy founded YC-backed Blendspace (acquired by Tes) after building the first web version of Excel at Microsoft. She holds a BS/MS in Computer Science from USC and holds 7 patents.

Amy has been coding since age 10, when she built her first custom fansites for Hanson and Lord of the Rings.

We weren't co-workers before. We became partners deliberately. Convenience had nothing to do with it. In that sense, we're the first company formed through Catalyst.
